The Murata Science Foundation (Chairman: Tsuneo Murata, Chairman of the Board, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.) has determined the awardees of 2022 research grants.
This year, 174 recipients will receive 533 million yen in funding, representing the company’s largest annual grant endowment to date. This year, a multiple, 3-year grant category was added to encourage and support long-term research projects, and seven recipients were selected. Research grants are also awarded to overseas researchers, with this year’s total of 19 million yen being awarded to 46 recipients at five universities.

Established to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Murata's founding, the Murata Science Foundation aims to contribute to the development of Japanese science and culture through grants promoting research in the areas of natural sciences – particularly electronics, humanities, and social sciences. This year marks the 38th year that grants have been awarded.
Grants fall into the three categories of Research, Conference, and Overseas Research, with the Murata Science Foundation continuing to provide ongoing and high-value grants that contribute to the wide-ranging development of science and culture. This year brings the cumulative total amount of grants provided to 5.312 billion yen. The foundation is particularly interested in fostering the work of budding young researchers.
